Why the "No stay—No play" policy?

The Sandia Cup Soccer Tournament is the largest sporting event in New Mexico. Because of its size, we need to reserve a large percentage of the hotel rooms in Albuquerque. Before they will block a large number of their rooms, the hotels want assurances that teams will be staying at their hotels. Also by having the policy we can negotiate better rates. The hotels have guaranteed that the rate given to the teams is the lowest offered that weekend. IF YOU FIND OUT DIFFERENTLY PLEASE LET US KNOW. (Please note that the rate is for four people per room and may included a complimentary breakfast.) Because of this policy, we have been able to persuade hotels to provide breakfast free of charge to the teams, which they were not doing in the past. In the event we need more rooms, the hotels are also more willing to work with us to find space. Also in the event that you have problems with a hotel, we have more leverage through the housing bureau to rectify the situation. We also monitor the hotels and eliminate any that continue to have problems from our list. Basically the policy gives us more influence with the hotels, and we believe that is of benefit to the teams attending our tournament.

A list of the participating hotels is on the housing form below. For more information on booking team reservations call Bertha Gomez at (505) 346-0522 or use the Housing Bureau link below. Team reservations may also be made via fax (505-346-0176) or e-mail to sandiacup@nmtravel.com.
